शादी से पहले सुहागरात सुनने में ही अजीब लगता है, शायद वेस्टर्न कल्चर में यह सामान्य बात हो लेकिन यहां आज भी इसे सही नहीं मानते और ये कोई वेस्टर्न देश की नहीं, भारत के ही छत्तीसगढ़ के बस्तर की बात है। इस राज्य की एक जनजाति ऐसी है, जहां शादी से पहले सुहागरात मनाई जाती है। लेकिन यह प्रथा गोंड जनजाति की पवित्र और शिक्षाप्रद प्रथा है।
